NSW Gets New Endurance Race Series

Inaugural Singletrack Mind to feature five races in 2010

New South Wales mountain bikers will get the chance to compete in 2010 in a new endurance race series called The Singletrack Mind.

Beginning in April, the five-event series will feature races ranging from six to 10 hours in duration. Each venue has been selected for its flowing singletrack and race-hosting abilities. The series will kick off April 18 in western NSW's singletrack oasis, Lidsdale State Forest near Lithgow. Events will follow in May, June and August before the series concludes on September 25 at the WMBC track in Appin.

The series is being promoted by Chocolate Foot, a new business run by Fiona Dick and Joe Ward. Dick has been behind the successful running of events such as the Highland Fling and the Mountains to Beach stage race. She is also well known as a racer, mountain bike skills educator and has written for major mountain bike magazines.

Supreme Cycles Hire Bikes

Supreme Cycles will be hiring out a very small hire bike fleet of Shop Road Bikes ONLY!So if you are in Sydney on holiday or business and don't want the bother of dragging your bike with you give us a call Sizes are very limited at this stage to a 55cm and 58cm sized bike. As demand increses we will gradually grow this fleet hopefully.

We will be looking at somewhere from $30 a day for hiring the bike, these rates can be negotiated over a longer time frame. All you need to do is bring your pedals, measurements and for absolute comfort your own saddle and we will fit you up properly before you leave

More Info On Manly Dam Opening

Warringah Council held an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday February 23 where Councillors passed an urgency motion in relation to the recent temporary closure of sections of the recreational track at Manly Dam.

This motion states: That Council-

1.Designate under the Manly Warringah War Memorial Park Plan of Management, those parts of the track, that prior to 12 February 2010 were used as bike track as available for the purpose of bike riding;

2.Restrict bush walking from the two (2) narrow bush tracks that are considered to be unsafe for sharing on the track at (1) above, these being approximately 1.7kms of the Trig Track and 200metres part of the northern section that was temporarily closed to bike riding on 12 February 2010;

3.Install safety signs at the entrance to this section of the track stating (to the effect), “WARNING this section of track is narrow and is only available to bike riders. Track conditions are variable and subject to weather and vegetation issues. Riders are advised to slow when approaching blind corners. Pedestrians do not enter. ”;

4.Require Mountain Bike riders to use the track one way, as well as to comply with the Mountain Bike Code of Conduct;

5.Commence an immediate review of the Manly Warringah War Memorial Park Plan of Management, in particular the future management of the interaction of walkers and Mountain Bikers, and

6.Commit up to $100,000 from the 2010/11 Budget surplus, reserved for bikepaths to the upgrading of the Manly Dam facility.
